Frame Style - Reclaimed Wood
Painting Medium: Acrylic On Wood
Theme: Modern Figurative Abstraction
Artist Description – Solitude
Solitude is a contemporary abstract figurative portrait painted on century-old, reclaimed wood, where geometry, color, and texture converge to express quiet introspection. The fragmented planes of the face are intentionally constructed through sharp geometric forms, suggesting a figure that is present yet inward-looking—complete in form, but distant in emotion.
This work draws inspiration from the Belgian artist Stefaan De Croock (Strook), whose powerful portraits crafted from reclaimed wood highlight the beauty of imperfection, age, and reuse. While Strook’s practice physically assembles portraits from salvaged materials, Solitude interprets that philosophy through paint—honoring the history of the wood surface while layering it with contemporary abstraction.
The intense red background amplifies emotional tension, contrasting with the structured geometry of the figure. Rather than depicting a specific identity, the portrait becomes a universal state of being—capturing isolation, stillness, and the quiet conversations we have with ourselves.
By combining geometric cubist influences, expressive color, and a historically rich wooden surface, Solitude stands as a meditation on time, material, and the human condition—where the past and present coexist in silence.
